Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our Richards Bay team. You will design, develop, and implement high-voltage electrical infrastructure for large-scale industrial projects, ensuring reliability, safety, and efficiency of power distribution networks.

You will perform studies (load flow, short-circuit, fault analysis), size equipment, prepare single-line diagrams, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum 6 years progressive experience in electrical power system design and analysis.
• Experience with high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify electrical power systems, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
• Perform power system studies, such as load flow, short-circuit, fault analysis, and transient stability analysis.
• Select and size electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protective relays.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and protection coordination studies.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant national and international electrical standards and safety regulations (e.g., SANS, IEC).
• Collaborate with mechanical, civil, and structural engineering teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Prepare technical specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and cost estimates for electrical systems.
• Oversee construction and commissioning phases, providing technical support and resolving site issues.
• Conduct site visits for inspections, feasibility studies, and project monitoring.
• Contribute to asset management strategies for electrical infrastructure.
