Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer for a pioneering IoT technology firm. This remote-first role allows work from Pretoria or anywhere, collaborating with hardware, software and product teams to design, develop, test and deploy embedded software and firmware.

Expect to work with RTOS/bare‑metal C/C++ code, develop drivers, perform bring-up, and contribute to automated testing while aligning with product roadmaps and IoT trends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of professional embedded systems development experience.
• Strong C and C++ skills for embedded applications.
• Experience with RTOS such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize embedded software for microcontrollers.
• Write clean, efficient C/C++ code for RTOS and bare‑metal environments.
• Develop device drivers and low‑level interfaces.
• Perform hardware bring‑up, debugging, and system integration.
• Design and implement protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet).
• Create unit, integration, and system tests; contribute to automation.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and product teams.
