Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer for a fully remote role, ideally located near Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will lead design, development, and testing of embedded software for IoT devices, including microcontrollers, sensors, and power management.

The role requires 6+ years in embedded systems, strong C/C++, ARM Cortex-M/ESP32, RTOS (FreeRTOS/Zephyr), and hardware-software integration. Collaboration with hardware engineers and rigorous testing are key.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years in embedded systems development.
• Strong C and C++ for embedded applications.
• Experience with ARM Cortex-M and ESP32 architectures.
• RTOS expertise with FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
• Proficiency with I2C, SPI, UART, MQTT, BLE.
• Experience with debugging tools and oscilloscopes.
• Hardware-software integration experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement and test embedded firmware for microcontrollers.
• Develop drivers, middleware, and application software for embedded products.
• Optimize firmware for performance, memory, and power.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system requirements.
• Participate in code reviews, debugging and troubleshooting.
• Maintain system architecture documents and firmware specs.
• Utilize Git for version control in firmware development.
• Assist in component/hardware selection and testing.
• Develop unit and integration tests for embedded software.
• Stay current with emerging embedded technologies.
