Placements24 is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer for a fully remote role across South Africa. You will design, develop, test, and deploy embedded software for diverse microcontroller platforms, ensuring reliability and low power operation.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of hands-on experience, strong C/C++, RTOS expertise (FreeRTOS/Zephyr), and solid hardware interface knowledge. Join a globally distributed team shaping next‑gen IoT devices with modern development practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on embedded software development experience.
• Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems.
• Strong RTOS experience (FreeRTOS/Zephyr).
• Solid understanding of embedded hardware interfaces and debugging tools (JTAG/SWD).
• Experience with IoT platforms and protocols (MQTT, CoAP).
• Familiarity with Git and Agile development methodologies.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong remote-team collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software for microcontrollers and platforms.
• Implement RTOS and low-power applications.
• Develop and optimize device drivers for hardware peripherals and sensors.
• Integrate wireless modules and protocols (Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, LoRa).
• Collaborate with hardware engineers throughout the product lifecycle.
• Perform code reviews, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Create unit and integration tests; ensure software quality.
• Document design specifications and user manuals; stay current with embedded tech.
