Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will lead electrical design across solar, wind and storage, developing schematics and performing power system analyses to ensure robust performance.

With 8+ years in power systems and renewables, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, ensure compliance with IEC/SANS, and mentor junior engineers while advancing innovative electrical solutions.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA or eligible.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, focused on power systems and renewables.
• Experience in grid-tied and off-grid electrical systems design and implementation.
• Knowledge of protection, grounding and earthing practices; familiarity with IEC/SANS codes.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the electrical design and engineering of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and battery storage systems. Develop electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, control logic, and wiring diagrams. Perform power system analysis, including load flow, short circuit, and stability studies. Specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, inverters, and cabling. Oversee the development of testing and commissioning procedures for electrical systems. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, software developers, and project managers, in a virtual setting. Conduct site visits for project evaluation, troubleshooting, and commissioning as required. Ensure designs comply with relevant international and national electrical codes and standards (e.g., IEC, SANS). Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior electrical engineers. Contribute to research and development of new electrical technologies and system improvements.

Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA or eligibility for registration. A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, with a strong focus on power systems and renewable energy. Proven experience in the design and implementation of grid-tied and off-grid electrical systems. Expertise in power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E) and CAD/BIM tools. In-depth knowledge of protection systems, grounding, and earthing practices. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, adapted for effective remote collaboration. Experience in managing project timelines and budgets is essential.
