Placements24 is seeking a remote Electrical Systems Specialist to design, analyze, and optimize large-scale electrical power systems for renewable energy projects, primarily solar and wind. You will work from anywhere in South Africa with international teams.

You will perform power flow, short-circuit, and stability analyses, develop single-line diagrams, ensure compliance with grid codes, and contribute to project documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in design of electrical power systems with a renewable energy focus.
• Proven experience with power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD).
• In-depth knowledge of grid codes, IEC/IEEE standards, and electrical safety practices.
• Experience with high-voltage equipment and substations.
• Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is advantageous.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, adept at remote collaboration.

This pivotal role focuses on the design, analysis, and optimization of large-scale electrical systems for renewable energy projects, primarily solar and wind farms. Working remotely from anywhere in South Africa, you will be a key contributor to our mission of accelerating the transition to clean energy. You will leverage your expertise in power systems, grid integration, and electrical infrastructure to develop innovative and efficient designs. Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical systems for utility-scale solar and wind power plants, including substations, collection systems, and grid interconnection.
• Perform detailed power flow, short circuit, and stability analysis using advanced simulation software.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and equipment specifications for electrical components.
• Ensure designs comply with international and local grid codes, electrical standards, and safety regulations.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, civil engineers, and equipment suppliers in a remote setting.
• Conduct technical reviews of designs prepared by internal teams or external consultants.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical design challenges during the project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, feasibility studies, and project documentation.
• Identify and evaluate new technologies and components to improve system performance and reduce costs.
• Participate in virtual project meetings and provide expert technical guidance to project teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.

• Proven experience with power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD).
