Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems specialization.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for utility-scale renewable energy projects (solar & wind).

About the Role

Our client, a globally recognized leader in renewable energy solutions, is seeking an exceptional Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join their innovative team on a fully remote basis. This position is designed for a senior engineer who can drive the electrical design aspects of large-scale solar and wind energy projects from concept through to detailed design. While the role is remote, it will support projects that have a significant presence and operational footprint in regions including Stellenbosch, Western Cape . You will be responsible for leading design efforts, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring the technical integrity and efficiency of our electrical systems. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar PV and wind farms.
• Develop and oversee the creation of detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring schedules.
• Perform complex calculations for power system design, including load flow, fault analysis, and protection coordination.
• Specify and select key electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, inverters, and cabling.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international electrical standards, codes, and regulations.
• Collaborate effectively with remote project management, civil, and mechanical engineering teams.
• Conduct technical reviews of designs prepared by other engineers and provide constructive feedback.
• Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers, fostering their technical development.
• Contribute to proposal development, technical studies, and feasibility assessments.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and best practices in the renewable energy sector.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with a significant focus on renewable energy projects.
• Proven experience in leading electrical design teams and managing project deliverables.
• In-depth knowledge of AC/DC power systems, grid interconnection standards, and renewable energy technologies.
• Proficiency in industry-standard electrical design software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, AutoCAD) and simulation tools.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, essential for remote team collaboration.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet stringent deadlines in a remote environment.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent is highly desirable.
