Placements24 is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead electrical engineering across large-scale mining projects in South Africa. The role requires senior technical direction, oversight of power distribution, substations, heavy mining equipment, and ventilation systems, with a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
• 10–12 years in electrical engineering with at least 6 years in mining.
• Pr. Eng registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• Experience with mine electrical systems including HV/MV distribution, VFDs, and motor control.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level technical direction for electrical engineering aspects of mining projects.
• Develop and review electrical designs for power distribution, substations, heavy mining equipment, and ventilation systems.
• Ensure electrical infrastructure designs meet safety regulations, environmental standards, and operational requirements in Rustenburg.
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex electrical issues impacting mining operations.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and technical audits for new and existing electrical systems.
• Mentor and develop junior and mid-level electrical engineers, promoting technical excellence.
• Collaborate with project management, operations, and other engineering disciplines for seamless project execution.
• Specify and procure electrical equipment and materials, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
• Stay abreast of advancements in mining technology and electrical engineering practices relevant to the sector.
• Champion the implementation of innovative electrical solutions to enhance safety, productivity, and sustainability.
