Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a prestigious architectural and engineering consultancy in Randburg, Gauteng. The role focuses on designing electrical systems for high-end commercial buildings, mentoring junior engineers, and delivering innovative, sustainable solutions.

You will lead the electrical design process, ensure compliance with SANS/SABS/NHBRC, and collaborate with architects and engineers across disciplines in a flexible hybrid

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant electrical design experience for commercial buildings.
• PrEng registration with ECSA preferred.
• Experience leading design teams and managing projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for commercial buildings from concept to handover.
• Prepare detailed drawings, specs, and calculations for lighting, power, earthing, and fire detection.
• Perform load, voltage drop, and fault current analyses.
• Review shop drawings and respond to site queries during construction.
• Mentor junior engineers and assist with tender and contract administration.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design for commercial building projects, from concept development to final handover.
• Develop detailed electrical design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and calculations for lighting, power distribution, earthing, and fire detection systems.
• Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and fault current studies.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, SABS, NHBRC standards, and relevant building codes.
• Collaborate effectively with architectural and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Review shop drawings and respond to site queries during construction.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to design intent.
• Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers and designers.
• Assist in tender preparation and contract administration.
• Stay updated on the latest electrical technologies and sustainable design practices for buildings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in electrical design engineering, specifically for commercial building projects.
• Proven experience in leading electrical design teams and managing project delivery.
• In-depth knowledge of building electrical systems, low voltage distribution, lighting design, and emergency power systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and electrical design software (e.g., Amtech, DIALux).
• Strong understanding of South African building regulations and electrical codes.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and client management skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing office-based collaboration with remote work.
• Experience with green building certifications (e.g., LEED, Green Star) is an advantage.
