Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the electrical design team in Randburg, Gauteng. You will oversee conceptualization, detail design, and project management of electrical systems for commercial, residential, and institutional buildings, ensuring compliance with codes and client requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

Responsibilities

About the Role

A prestigious architectural and engineering consultancy firm is looking for a highly experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer specializing in Building Services to lead their electrical design team in Randburg, Gauteng. This role is responsible for the conceptualization, design, and project management of electrical systems for a wide range of commercial, residential, and institutional buildings. You will oversee all technical aspects of electrical design, ensuring compliance with building codes, standards, and client requirements, while also mentoring junior engineers. The position demands a deep understanding of electrical building services, including power distribution, lighting design, emergency systems, and coordination with other building disciplines. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for building services projects from concept through to completion.
• Develop detailed electrical design drawings, specifications, and calculations for power distribution, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection systems.
• Manage and coordinate electrical design work with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and other project stakeholders.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant national and international standards (e.g., SANS, IEC, BS).
• Prepare tender documents, evaluate contractor submissions, and oversee site installation and commissioning.
• Conduct electrical load assessments, system capacity planning, and energy efficiency analyses.
• Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers and technicians, fostering their professional development.
• Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for new projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical design and installation issues.
• Stay updated on new technologies, materials, and best practices in electrical building services.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with a strong focus on building services.
• Proven experience in managing the electrical design aspects of complex building projects.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Amtech) is essential.
• Solid understanding of power systems, lighting design principles, and emergency power systems (generators, UPS).
• Knowledge of building codes, SANS standards, and relevant electrical regulations.
• Excellent project management, communication, and client liaison skills.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) with ECSA is highly preferred.
• Ability to lead and motivate a design team.
• Experience with sustainable building design principles is advantageous.
