Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.

• 9+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with focus on commercial property development and building services.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical engineering design process for commercial building projects from concept to completion.

About the Role

Our client is a leading developer and manager of prime commercial real estate and seeks a highly competent Lead Electrical Engineer to manage electrical design and implementation for their prestigious projects. Located in the heart of Sandton 's business district, this role is pivotal in ensuring that all electrical systems within new developments and existing properties are state-of-the-art, compliant, and efficient. You will lead a team and collaborate closely with architects, project managers, and contractors to deliver exceptional electrical solutions for high-value commercial spaces in Gauteng.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical engineering design process for commercial building projects, from concept to completion.
• Develop detailed electrical designs, including power distribution, lighting, security systems, and fire alarm systems.
• Specify electrical equipment and materials, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with standards.
• Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers, overseeing their work quality.
• Ensure all electrical installations comply with SANS, national building regulations, and relevant safety standards.
• Coordinate with external consultants, contractors, and statutory authorities to facilitate project progress.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, and commissioning to verify installation quality and system performance.
• Manage electrical project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation effectively.
• Research and implement innovative electrical technologies and energy-efficient solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues that arise during project execution or in existing facilities.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng).
• A minimum of 9 years of comprehensive experience in electrical engineering, with a strong specialization in commercial property development and building services.
• Proven track record of successfully leading electrical design and project execution for large-scale commercial buildings.
• Extensive knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and best practices in South Africa.
• Experience with sophisticated building management systems (BMS) and smart building technologies.
• Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• Excellent project management, financial acumen, and negotiation abilities.
• Proficiency in industry-standard electrical design and modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, DIALux).
