Placements24 is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer in Randburg, Gauteng to lead building services design for commercial, residential, and institutional projects. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with exposure to power distribution, lighting design, emergency systems, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in electrical design for building services, and a PE/PrEng/PrTechEng registration is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical design for building services.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP for electrical design.
• Strong knowledge of low/medium voltage systems.
• Familiarity with SANS regulations and building codes.

Responsabilités

• Design electrical systems for new builds and refurbishments (power, lighting, earthing, lightning protection).
• Prepare detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and schedules.
• Perform electrical load calculations and fault current analyses.

About the Role

Our client, a reputable architectural and engineering consultancy based in Randburg, Gauteng , is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to focus on Building Services and Design. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for flexibility while maintaining collaboration with the team. You will be responsible for the design, specification, and project management of electrical systems within commercial, residential, and institutional buildings. This includes power distribution, lighting design, emergency systems, and coordination with other building services disciplines. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in building electrical design and a keen eye for detail, ensuring projects meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and sustainability goals. You will be a key contributor to our design department, working on exciting and diverse projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical systems for new builds and refurbishments, including power, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection.
• Prepare detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and schedules using industry-standard software.
• Conduct electrical load calculations, fault current analysis, and lighting level calculations.
• Ensure compliance with relevant SANS, building codes, and health and safety regulations.
• Coordinate electrical designs with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and other consultants.
• Specify electrical equipment and components, including switchgear, distribution boards, generators, and UPS systems.
• Provide technical support and site supervision during construction phases as needed.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to site queries.
• Assist in the preparation of project proposals and fee estimates.
• Stay updated on new technologies, standards, and best practices in electrical building services.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design for building services.
• Proficiency in using AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP for electrical design.
• Solid understanding of low and medium voltage power distribution systems.
• Knowledge of lighting design principles and relevant software.
• Familiarity with emergency power systems and generators.
• Good understanding of South African electrical regulations and SANS standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a hybrid team.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) registration is an advantage.
