Job summary

Placements24 is recruiting a Chief Mining Engineer for a globally oriented, fully remote leadership role. You will set long-term mining strategies, optimize extraction methods, and lead international cross-functional teams from your location.

You will shape safe, efficient, and sustainable mining practices, oversee feasibility studies, drive digital tooling adoption, and mentor regional engineers while collaborating with management, exploration, metallurgy, and environmental teams.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Mining Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive mining engineering experience in design, planning, and operations, with international exposure.
• Proven success in developing strategic mining plans for large-scale projects.
• Expert knowledge of open pit and underground mining methods.
• Proficiency with advanced mine planning and simulation software.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Experience working in a fully remote, global team environment with excellent virtual communication.
• Knowledge of mine economics, risk management, and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.
• Self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Develop and articulate the long-term strategic vision for mine planning, design, and operational execution.
• Lead the evaluation and selection of optimal mining methods and technologies for diverse commodities and geological settings.
• Oversee the technical aspects of feasibility studies, scoping studies, and new project developments, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
• Establish and enforce global standards for mine design, planning, safety, and operational performance.
• Provide expert technical leadership and mentorship to regional engineering teams and mine site personnel.
• Drive innovation in mine planning, scheduling, and production optimization through the adoption of advanced digital tools and methodologies.
• Collaborate closely with senior management, exploration, metallurgy, and environmental teams to ensure integrated project execution.
• Conduct peer reviews of significant mine plans and operational strategies to ensure technical integrity and economic viability.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends, disruptive technologies, and best practices in the global mining industry.
• Champion a culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement across all mining operations.
