Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Remote Geotechnical Engineer to support mining projects nationwide from a home office. You will analyze geotechnical data, develop design recommendations and conduct risk assessments to ensure safety and stability of mine structures.

The role requires a Master’s or PhD in Geotechnical or Mining Engineering, 7+ years in the field, and proficiency with Roc Science and FLAC. You will collaborate with site teams remotely and provide guidance across South Africa.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with mining focus.
• Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software (RocScience, FLAC).
• Strong rock and soil mechanics understanding, plus numerical modeling skills.
• Excellent report writing and remote communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations using field and lab data.
• Design and recommend ground support systems for underground openings and slope stability.
• Perform stability analyses for slopes, excavations, and surface infrastructure with specialized software.
• Develop geotechnical risk assessments and mitigation strategies for mining projects.
• Provide technical guidance to site teams remotely.
