Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Remote Geotechnical Engineer to support mining operations across various locations, with a focus on Western Cape and beyond. The role is fully remote and leverages advanced modeling to assess risks and mitigation strategies from a home office.

You will collaborate with site-based teams and management, delivering critical insights and detailed geotechnical analyses, reports, and design documentation for project success.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of mining geotechnical experience.
• Proficiency with FLAC, Plaxis or similar FE software.
• Strong rock/soil mechanics understanding and reporting ability.
• Excellent remote collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical assessments of open-pit slopes and underground excavations.
• Develop monitoring programs using instrumentation and data acquisition.
• Model slope stability and ground support systems numerically.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice on risks and mitigations to project teams.
• Review geotechnical data from investigations, drilling and testing.
• Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and design documents.
