Placements24 in South Africa seeks a Senior Mine Geotechnical Engineer to deliver expert technical support for mining operations in Kimberley. You will assess ground conditions, develop design recommendations, and monitor underground and open-pit stability to safeguard people and assets.

The role requires a Master’s or PhD in Geotechnical or Mining Engineering, at least 8 years of mine geotechnical experience, and proficiency with Rocscience, FLAC, Maptek, and GIS.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of specialized experience in mine geotechnical engineering.
• Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC, Maptek) and GIS tools.
• Strong knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and structural geology principles.
• Experience with field investigations, instrumentation, and data interpretation.
• Excellent analytical skills, report writing capabilities, and communication proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive geotechnical investigations and analyses for mine design and stability assessments.
• Develop and implement ground support and monitoring plans for underground excavations and open pits.
• Analyze rock mass properties, slope stability, and seismic activity relevant to mining operations.
• Provide geotechnical input into mine planning, development, and operational activities.
• Monitor ground conditions and assess potential risks, recommending mitigation strategies.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, design documents, and presentations for stakeholders.
