Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Remote Environmental Health & Safety Officer to oversee safety and hygiene in cleaning operations across multiple facilities. This senior role demands strong knowledge of EHS regulations and the ability to develop, implement, and monitor safety programs from a distance, with occasional site visits near Richards Bay.

You will conduct remote risk assessments, train staff, investigate incidents, and maintain records while aligning cleaning protocols with industry

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 5 years in an EHS role in cleaning/facilities management.
• Proven ability to develop and implement safety management systems.
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to cleaning operations.
• Experience in risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Strong communication, training, and presentation abilities.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency with digital tools for remote collaboration, reporting, and data management.
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote setting; occasional travel to Richards Bay area for audits.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs specifically for cleaning operations.
• Conduct remote risk assessments and identify potential hazards associated with cleaning chemicals, equipment, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all local, regional, and national health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Create and deliver training materials on EHS best practices for cleaning staff and supervisors.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain detailed EHS records, including training logs, inspection reports, and incident documentation.
• Regularly review and update cleaning protocols to align with the latest safety standards and industry best practices.
• Liaise with site managers and operational teams to address any EHS concerns and ensure effective implementation of policies.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies in EHS management for cleaning services.
