Job summary

Placements24 in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Officer to oversee cleaning operations. The role blends remote planning with on-site inspections to uphold health, safety and environmental standards across multiple sites.

You will develop policies, conduct risk assessments, lead incident investigations and deliver training for cleaning staff. A strong EHS background in facilities or industrial services and SA regulations is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years in an EHS role, with cleaning/industrial service exposure.
• Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., SAMTRAC, NOSA, NEBOSH).
• Strong knowledge of South African EHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to develop and implement effective EHS management systems.
• Excellent communication and training abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain EHS policies for cleaning and sanitation operations.
• Conduct site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses; perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
• Deliver EHS training on chemical handling, equipment safety and emergency procedures.
• Monitor waste management and hazardous substances compliance; maintain records.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure permits and licenses are up-to-date.
• Promote a strong safety culture across cleaning teams and client sites.
• Stay updated on changes in EHS legislation and best practices relevant to cleaning.
