Job summary

Placements24 seeks a highly qualified Remote Data Protection Officer with a strong legal background to oversee POPIA compliance for the South African operation. This role is fully remote and the DPO will advise on processing activities, DPIAs, data subject requests, and breaches.

You will be the main contact for supervisory authorities, lead audits, provide staff training, and help shape our data protection practices across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Admitted lawyer with 6+ years in data privacy and POPIA.
• Experience conducting DPIAs and audits.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain POPIA-aligned data protection policies.
• Monitor compliance, audits, and DPIAs.
• Advise on DPIAs for new projects.
• Serve as liaison with authorities and data subjects.
• Provide staff training on data protection.
• Investigate data breaches and coordinate remediation.
