Placements24 is seeking an experienced remote Data Privacy Lawyer to provide expert legal guidance on data protection and privacy matters in South Africa.

This full-time, remote position focuses on POPIA, GDPR compliance, DPIAs, DSARs and privacy notices, with the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court with a minimum of 5 years of experience, specializing in data privacy law.
• In-depth knowledge of POPIA, GDPR, and other international privacy frameworks.
• Experience drafting and reviewing privacy notices, consent mechanisms, and data processing agreements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive data privacy strategies and policies to ensure compliance with global and local regulations (POPIA, GDPR, etc.).
• Advise business teams on data protection implications of new products, services, and data processing activities.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and maintain records of processing activities.
• Manage data subject access requests (DSARs) and respond to inquiries from data protection authorities.
• Provide training and awareness programs to employees on data privacy best practices.

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Remote Data Privacy Lawyer to provide expert legal guidance on data protection and privacy matters. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with POPIA, GDPR, and other relevant privacy regulations, advising on data processing activities, and developing robust privacy policies and procedures. This role is critical for safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining the trust of our clients and partners in a digital-first environment.

Key Responsibilities
