Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Lawyer to join the legal team in a fully remote capacity, serving clients across Soweto and beyond. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with POPIA, advising on data processing activities, and managing data breach responses.

You will draft privacy policies, conduct DPIAs, handle data subject requests, and deliver staff training while operating independently in a remote environment.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with a strong focus on data privacy and protection law.
• In-depth understanding of POPIA and related privacy principles (e.g., GDPR).
• Experience drafting privacy policies and handling data subject rights requests.
• Analytical thinker with meticulous attention to detail and ability to work remotely.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to educate staff on data protection matters.

Responsibilities

• Advise on data protection law, POPIA and related regulations.
• Draft and update privacy policies, consent forms, and DPAs.
• Conduct DPIAs for new projects and systems.
• Manage data subject access requests and complaints.
• Develop and deliver training on data protection best practices.
• Support data breach responses, including notification procedures.
