Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Remote Data Protection Lawyer to join its legal team. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with POPIA, GDPR, and global privacy standards, and involves advising on data processing agreements, DPIAs, and data breach responses.

The successful candidate will lead the design and implementation of privacy programs, manage regulatory inquiries, and operate in a fully remote capacity to support data governance initiatives across the organization.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with data privacy focus.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in data protection/privacy law.
• Profound knowledge of POPIA and GDPR.
• Experience implementing privacy compliance programs.
• Strong analytical and advisory skills; able to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on data protection laws (POPIA, GDPR) and best practices.
• Develop, implement, and maintain data privacy policies and procedures.
• Conduct DPIs for new projects and systems.
• Manage data subject access requests and regulatory inquiries.
• Advise on data processing agreements and cross-border transfers.
• Lead data breach responses with internal and external stakeholders.
