Placements24 is seeking a Senior Data Privacy Counsel to lead the company's data protection program in a fully remote capacity. The role focuses on compliance with POPIA, GDPR, and global privacy frameworks, advising on policy development and incident response.

Ideal candidates are admitted attorneys with significant data privacy and information security experience, capable of building and leading the privacy function within a growing organization, from a remote workspace.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with 7+ years of experience focusing on data privacy and information security law.
• Deep knowledge of POPIA and ideally GDPR or international privacy frameworks.
• Experience in developing privacy policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on data privacy laws and regulations including POPIA and GDPR.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the global data privacy program.
• Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
• Manage data subject access requests and other data privacy rights.
• Oversee investigation and response to data breaches.
• Draft and negotiate data processing agreements and other privacy contracts.

About the Role

You will advise on all aspects of data privacy, develop and implement privacy policies, manage data breach responses, and conduct privacy impact assessments. Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on data privacy laws and regulations, including POPIA and GDPR.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the company's global data privacy program.

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of South African POPIA and, ideally, GDPR or other international privacy frameworks.
• Experience in developing and implementing privacy policies and procedures.
• Strong understanding of IT systems and data processing activities.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a remote environment.
