Placements24 is seeking a Purchasing Officer for a leading industrial manufacturer in George, Western Cape. You will manage procurement of raw materials, components and services, ensuring cost savings and quality while maintaining strong supplier relationships.

You will collaborate with production, engineering and QC teams to forecast needs, process POs, and optimize inventory. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in purchasing, a relevant diploma or degree, and strong negotiation and Excel skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute purchasing activities for raw materials, consumables, and indirect services in accordance with established budgets and quality specifications.
• Source new suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and conduct price negotiations to secure competitive terms.
• Manage existing supplier relationships, monitor their performance, and resolve any issues that may arise.
• Process purchase orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely delivery of goods.
• Collaborate closely with production, engineering, and quality control teams to forecast material needs and ensure supply chain continuity.
• Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier performance data.
• Identify opportunities to optimize inventory levels and reduce holding costs.
• Assist in the development and implementation of procurement policies and procedures.
• Stay informed about market trends and commodity prices that may impact the company's purchasing costs.

Requirements

• A National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in a purchasing or procurement environment.
• Proven ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers.
• Familiarity with inventory management principles and systems.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience with an ERP system is a plus.
• Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy.
• Must be located in or willing to relocate to George, Western Cape .
