Placements24 is seeking an Intermodal Logistics Coordinator to manage multi-modal movement of goods in Upington and beyond. The role coordinates road, rail, and sea movements, tracks shipments, and resolves issues, acting as the liaison between carriers, clients, and internal teams.

The ideal candidate has experience in intermodal logistics, strong communication and negotiation skills, and proficiency with tracking platforms. This is a remote contractor position offering flexible engagement.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic global freight forwarder, is seeking a proactive and organized Intermodal Logistics Coordinator to manage the seamless movement of goods across various transportation modes, including road, rail, and sea, within the Upington, Northern Cape, ZA region and beyond. This role is crucial for ensuring efficient, timely, and cost-effective transit of cargo, acting as a central point of contact for carriers, clients, and internal operations teams. You will be responsible for coordinating schedules, tracking shipments, resolving logistical challenges, and ensuring all documentation is accurate and compliant. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of different transport modalities and excellent communication skills. This position is a remote contractor role, offering flexibility while requiring dedicated engagement to support complex logistical flows.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate the planning and execution of intermodal transportation routes.
• Track and manage shipment progress across multiple modes of transport (truck, rail, sea).
• Liaise with trucking companies, rail operators, shipping lines, and other service providers.
• Communicate shipment status updates to clients and internal sales/operations teams.
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of all relevant documentation (e.g., bills of lading, customs declarations).
• Identify and resolve logistical issues, delays, or disruptions to minimize impact on transit times.
• Monitor carrier performance and adherence to agreed service levels.
• Assist in the negotiation of rates and terms with service providers.
• Maintain accurate records of all shipments and associated costs in the company's system.
• Contribute to process improvements for enhanced intermodal efficiency.

Requirements

• Proven experience in logistics coordination, freight forwarding, or transportation management, with specific exposure to intermodal operations.
• Good understanding of different transportation modes and their integration.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in using logistics software and tracking platforms.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy in documentation and record-keeping.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote contractor setting.
• Familiarity with the logistics infrastructure and carriers serving Upington, Northern Cape, ZA is advantageous.
• A relevant qualification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management is a plus.
