Placements24 is seeking a skilled Technical Support Engineer to join our Durban team. You will provide high-level support for software applications, troubleshoot complex issues, and collaborate with engineering to reproduce bugs and validate fixes.

The role requires a 3-5 year track record in technical support or software engineering, strong OS/networking/SQL knowledge, and excellent communication. Hybrid work arrangement offered in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a technical support or software engineering role, with a focus on application support.
• Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux), networking concepts, and databases (SQL).
• Proficiency in troubleshooting client-server applications and web technologies.
• Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• Superb communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) is a plus.
• Familiarity with ITIL best practices is desirable.
• Must be located in or able to commute to Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level technical support for software applications, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues reported by customers, often involving in-depth investigation of logs and system behavior.
• Document technical solutions, workarounds, and best practices for internal knowledge base and customer use.
• Collaborate with the engineering and QA teams to reproduce bugs, test fixes, and provide feedback on product quality.
• Manage and prioritize support tickets, ensuring timely resolution and effective communication with clients throughout the process.
• Develop and deliver technical training materials to customers and internal support staff.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of support processes and tools.
• Participate in on-call rotation as needed to provide 24/7 support coverage for critical issues.
