Job summary
Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our client in Richards Bay for mining infrastructure projects. You will conduct site investigations, analyze rock mechanics, and provide design parameters to ensure stability and safety across open pits and underground workings.
The role requires a geotechnical specialization, 5+ years of mining experience, and proficiency with GeoStudio, FLAC, and Rocscience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical specialization.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant geotechnical experience, preferably in mining.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software packages (GeoStudio, FLAC, Rocscience).
- Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics and their application to mining.
- Experience in ground support design and monitoring instrumentation.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed geotechnical site investigations and data collection.
- Perform numerical modeling and analysis of rock mechanics and slope stability.
- Develop geotechnical design parameters for mine development and stability.
- Monitor ground conditions and implement support systems.
- Prepare geotechnical reports, assessments, and risk management plans.
- Collaborate with planning and construction teams for safe designs.
