Job summary

Placements24 is partnering with a well-regarded gastro pub in Kimberley, Northern Cape, to find an experienced Sous Chef. The role supports the Head Chef in delivering high-quality pub fare with a gourmet twist and plays a key part in daily kitchen operations, stock management and menu development.

The ideal candidate will have strong culinary skills, leadership experience and a passion for quality, thriving in a fast-paced pub environment in Kimberley.

Qualifications

• Experience as Sous Chef, Senior Chef de Partie, or similar kitchen leadership role.
• Proven food preparation, cooking techniques and plate presentation.
• Good understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in managing all kitchen aspects including food prep, cooking and presentation.
• Supervise kitchen staff during shifts and provide guidance to ensure standards are met.
• Prepare dishes according to established recipes and quality guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment in line with hygiene regulations.
• Assist with inventory management, stock rotation and ordering of supplies.
• Contribute to menu planning and development of new dishes.
• Monitor food quality and presentation and make adjustments as needed.
• Support kitchen operations in Head Chef's absence.
