Placements24 is seeking a Fleet Manager to oversee a delivery vehicle fleet in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. The role focuses on maximizing operational efficiency, controlling costs, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance across a growing distribution network.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent national retailer with an extensive distribution network, is seeking a highly competent and results-oriented Fleet Manager to oversee their vehicle fleet operations in the Mossel Bay, Western Cape region. This pivotal role involves managing a diverse fleet of delivery vehicles, ensuring optimal operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to all safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of fleet management best practices, and a proven ability to manage maintenance, fuel consumption, and driver performance. You will play a crucial part in maintaining the smooth and reliable supply of goods to numerous retail outlets across the Western Cape, ensuring our logistical operations are second to none.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the company's vehicle fleet, including scheduling, routing, and dispatch.
• Oversee all aspects of vehicle maintenance, repairs, and servicing to ensure fleet reliability and safety.
• Develop and implement strategies to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce operational costs across the fleet.
• Ensure compliance with all South African road safety regulations, licensing, and legal requirements.
• Recruit, train, and manage a team of professional drivers, fostering a culture of safety and performance.
• Monitor driver performance, conduct regular reviews, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Manage relationships with third-party service providers, such as mechanics and parts suppliers.
• Maintain accurate records of fleet inventory, mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance history, and accident reports.
• Develop and manage the fleet budget, identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
• Implement and enforce company policies and procedures related to fleet operations and driver conduct.

Requirements

• Proven experience in fleet management, logistics, or transportation management, preferably within a retail or distribution environment.
• Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance, vehicle repair, and operational logistics.
• Familiarity with South African road transport legislation and safety standards.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a focus on cost reduction.
• Proficiency in using fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with drivers, management, and external suppliers.
• A valid driver's license (Code 10/14 preferred) and a clean driving record.
• Ability to develop and manage departmental budgets effectively.
