About the Role

Our client, a leading manufacturer of industrial automation equipment, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Electrical Field Service Engineer to join their team, primarily serving the Paarl, Western Cape region and surrounding areas. This role is essential for providing on-site technical support, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of our clients' advanced electrical and automation systems. You will be the primary technical point of contact for customers, ensuring their equipment operates optimally and resolving any technical issues promptly. The ideal candidate will possess strong electrical troubleshooting skills, a deep understanding of industrial control systems, and excellent customer service abilities. This position requires extensive travel within the designated region and demands a proactive approach to problem-solving in diverse industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform installation, commissioning, and start-up of electrical and automation systems at customer sites.
• Conduct routine maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment and control systems.
• Identify and resolve complex electrical and mechanical issues to minimize downtime for customers.
• Provide on-site technical training and support to customer personnel.
• Read and interpret complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Respond promptly to service calls and emergency breakdowns, ensuring efficient problem resolution.
• Prepare detailed service reports, including findings, actions taken, and recommendations.
• Collaborate with the internal engineering and sales teams to address customer needs and feedback.
• Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and company policies during site visits.
• Maintain service tools, equipment, and documentation in good order.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in field service, maintenance, or technical support of industrial electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of PLC systems, HMI interfaces, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and industrial automation components.
• Proficient in reading and understanding electrical schematics and technical drawings.
• Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electrical and control systems.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while travelling extensively.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients.
• Willingness to travel extensively within the Paarl, Western Cape region and occasionally further afield.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Knowledge of safety procedures for industrial environments is essential.
