Hybrid model with on-site collaboration and project site visits. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Electrical Eng, 6+ years experience, proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP, and knowledge of SANS codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical design in building services or construction.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP and relevant electrical design software.
• Solid understanding of power systems, distribution and lighting design principles.
• Knowledge of South African building codes and electrical installation regulations.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical designs for power, lighting, emergency power and low-voltage systems.
• Create electrical drawings, schematics, specs and calculations using CAD/BIM.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS and international regulations.
• Collaborate with architects and mechanical engineers throughout design.
• Conduct site surveys and verify design implementations.
• Prepare BOQ and assist tender/procurement.
• Provide technical support during construction and resolve issues.
• Review shop drawings and submittals from contractors.

You will be responsible for the complete electrical design lifecycle of major building projects, including commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments. Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed electrical designs for power distribution, lighting, emergency power, and low-voltage systems for buildings.
• Produce comprehensive electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, and calculations using CAD and BIM software.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant building codes, national standards (SANS), and international regulations.
• Collaborate closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and other project stakeholders throughout the design process.
• Conduct site surveys and inspections to assess existing conditions and verify design implementations.
• Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and assist with the tender and procurement process.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to site queries and resolving design issues.
• Review shop drawings and construction submittals from contractors.
• Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers and designers.
• Stay updated on the latest building technologies, energy efficiency standards, and design practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical design, specifically within the building services or construction industry.
• Proficiency in using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and relevant electrical design and analysis software.
• Solid understanding of power systems, distribution, lighting design principles, and fire alarm/security systems.
• Knowledge of South African building codes and electrical installation regulations.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage design tasks independently and work effectively within a hybrid team structure.
• Experience with energy modeling and sustainable design principles is an advantage.
• Professional registration (e.g., Pr. Eng.) with ECSA is highly desirable.
