Placements24 is seeking an innovative Electrical Systems Design Engineer for a Randburg–Gauteng office. The role focuses on conceptualizing, designing, and implementing electrical systems for commercial, residential, and industrial projects.

You will manage power distribution, lighting, earthing, and integration of renewable energy sources and BMS, while collaborating with architects and other engineers to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in electrical design for buildings or renewables.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and DIALux.
• Knowledge of power distribution, lighting, and earthing design.
• Experience with BMS and smart-building technologies is a plus.

This role is central to the conceptualization, design, and implementation of electrical systems for commercial, residential, and industrial projects. You will be responsible for power distribution, lighting design, earthing systems, and the integration of renewable energy sources and intelligent building management systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong design skills, a deep understanding of electrical codes and standards, and a passion for creating efficient, safe, and sustainable electrical infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed electrical designs for buildings and facilities, including power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems.
• Prepare electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications using industry-standard CAD and BIM software.
• Perform load calculations, fault current analysis, and ensure compliance with national electrical codes (e.g., SANS 10142) and international standards.
• Design and integrate renewable energy systems (e.g., solar PV) into building electrical infrastructure.
• Specify electrical equipment, including switchgear, transformers, generators, and lighting fixtures.
• Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
• Conduct site visits for inspection, verification, and to provide technical support during construction.
• Review shop drawings and submittals from contractors to ensure compliance with design intent.
• Research and recommend new technologies and innovative solutions for electrical system design.
• Contribute to project proposals and client presentations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical systems design, preferably within the building services or renewable energy sectors.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, DIALux).
• Strong knowledge of power system design, distribution, and protection principles.
• Familiarity with building codes, electrical safety standards, and relevant regulations.
• Experience with building management systems (BMS) and smart home technologies is a significant advantage.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Experience with renewable energy system design (e.g., solar PV systems) is a strong plus.
