Qualifications

• Experience with energy-efficient lighting design and renewable energy integration (e.g., solar PV).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, suited for a remote work setting.

Responsibilities

About the Role

They are seeking a talented Senior Electrical Design Engineer specializing in Building Services to join their growing team. This position is fully remote, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere within South Africa . You will be responsible for developing comprehensive electrical design solutions for a wide range of projects, including commercial, residential, and institutional buildings. Your role will encompass the entire design lifecycle, from initial concept development and feasibility studies through to detailed design, documentation, and coordination with other disciplines. We are looking for a proactive individual with a passion for sustainable design and a keen eye for detail, who can thrive in a remote collaborative environment and deliver high-quality electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical building services systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, and earthing.
• Prepare detailed design drawings, schematics, and specifications using CAD and BIM software.
• Perform load calculations, lighting level calculations, and short circuit analysis.
• Specify electrical equipment and materials, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and codes.
• Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, and mechanical disciplines.
• Conduct energy efficiency analysis and incorporate sustainable design principles.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) during the construction phase.
• Assist with site inspections and commissioning as required.
• Liaise with clients, authorities, and other consultants.
• Stay updated on the latest electrical engineering technologies, building codes (SANS), and best practices in green building design.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in electrical building services design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (BIM) is essential.
• Strong understanding of South African electrical regulations, SANS codes, and relevant standards.
• Experience with energy-efficient lighting design and renewable energy integration (e.g., solar PV).
• Excellent technical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, suited for a remote work setting.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Experience with load flow and short circuit analysis software is advantageous.
• Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) or Technologist (Pr. Tech Eng) is a significant advantage.
