Placements24 seeks a Senior Electrical Systems Designer to lead the design of complex electrical systems for commercial, industrial, and infrastructural projects in Gauteng. You will create layouts, schematics and specifications while ensuring compliance with SA codes and standards.

The role requires a track record in electrical design, strong leadership, and collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary teams. A Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng is preferred, with hybrid work flexibility in Benoni region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years' experience in electrical systems design for buildings and infrastructure.
• Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng registration with ECSA preferred.
• Strong knowledge of SA codes, standards, and regulations.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a renowned consulting engineering firm with a strong presence in the Benoni, Gauteng region, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Systems Designer. This role is pivotal in leading the design and development of complex electrical systems for a wide array of projects, including commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and infrastructure developments. You will be responsible for creating detailed electrical layouts, schematics, and specifications, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in electrical design, possess strong leadership qualities, and be adept at collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for diverse projects, from conceptualization to detailed design and construction documentation.
• Develop comprehensive electrical system designs, including power distribution, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection systems.
• Prepare detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and calculations using industry-standard software.
• Ensure all designs comply with SANS, IEC, NEC, and other relevant electrical codes and standards.
• Coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines, such as structural, mechanical, and architectural teams.
• Perform electrical load calculations, short circuit analysis, and power quality studies.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and respond to contractor queries during the construction phase.
• Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and monitor construction progress in Benoni and other locations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior design engineers.
• Manage design project timelines and ensure deliverables are met.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical systems design for buildings and infrastructure.
• Proven expertise in using electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and relevant calculation tools.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulations applicable in South Africa.
• Strong understanding of power distribution, lighting design principles, and low voltage systems.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
• Experience in managing design projects and leading design teams.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
• Experience in the Gauteng region is advantageous.
