Job summary

University of Fort Hare is seeking a Desktop Support Technician to provide on-site and remote end-user support for desktops, peripherals, and software. The role involves diagnosing hardware and software issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.

The candidate should have 2–4 years of relevant experience, Windows 11 proficiency, and familiarity with Office 365.

Qualifications

Matric or equivalent
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, N+, or MCP are advantageous
Proven ability to support end-users and maintain IT equipment and software

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues for end-users, remotely and in person
Install, configure, test, and maintain desktop computers, peripherals, and software
Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and upgrades of IT equipment and systems
Train staff on computer literacy, IT procedures, and best practices
Maintain records of technical issues, solutions, and equipment inventory
Collaborate with IT team to ensure efficient desktop computing environment
Provide guidance on hardware and software purchases and upgrades
Resolve support requests and ensure customer satisfaction and service delivery
Install and diagnose operating systems such as Windows and Mac
Take ownership of issues and escalate when required
