Job summary

University of Fort Hare is seeking an IT Support Technician to maintain and support computer systems and networks on site. You will install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and software, while ensuring security and performance.

The role requires 3 years’ IT technical support experience, a relevant IT qualification, and a valid driver’s license. Weekend standby and driving to sites may be required according to workload.

Qualifications

• Minimum: relevant tertiary IT qualification.
• 3 years’ experience in IT technical support.
• Previous field technician experience preferred.
• Medically fit and able to work standby hours.
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Assist in setup and configuration of PCs, laptops, printers and IT equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and upgrades to ensure performance and security.
• Provide technical support for Microsoft 365 and related software.
• Manage user accounts and access within MS 365 environment.
• Collaborate with Head Office and remote IT teams to resolve issues.
• Monitor LAN and WAN infrastructure; troubleshoot DNS, DHCP and firewall settings.
• Stay updated with IT developments and propose improvements.
• Provide end-user training on IT tools and applications.
• Manage local data backups and PABX solutions.
