Job summary

The Royal Portfolio in Cape Town is seeking a Bartender to join our luxury team and craft drinks with professionalism and flair for our discerning guests.

You will interact with guests, take orders, upsell, and ensure all beverages are prepared and served to hotel standards while maintaining a pristine bar area and accurate inventory records.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as Bartender in an upmarket bar or luxury hotel environment.
• Experience using POS terminals and stock & inventory management software.
• Excellent English communication skills; other languages are advantageous.
• Top knowledge of The V&A Waterfront, Cape Town and surrounding areas.
• Willingness and passion to serve; ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Ability to work long hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Proven reliability, diligence, dedication and attention to detail.
• International experience and travel will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Provide superior, friendly and personalised guest service and experience.

• Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails and other drinks.
• Prepare drinks according to hotel standard recipes and menu.
• Check IDs to enforce age restrictions for alcohol/tobacco.

• Process payments and balance receipts; assist with stock replenishment.

Job description

The Silo Hotel Bartender’s main purpose will be to prepare and serve drinks to our guests, in a professional and friendly manner, mixing and matching ingredients in order to create classic and innovative drinks in accordance with our guests’ needs and discerning expectations. The Bartenders ensure that the standards of The Royal Portfolio are met, in order to contribute to the purpose of the company – "To give our guests a complete experience and a perfect stay".

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• To ensure a superior, friendly and personalised guest service and experience on opening date
• Interact with customers and to take orders
• Check identification of the guest to make sure they meet age requirements for purchase of alcohol and tobacco products
• Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails and other drinks
• Mix drinks, cocktails and other bar beverages as ordered and in compliance with hotel standard drink recipes
• Assess customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations
• Ability to sell or influence others for up selling and suggestive selling
• Provide guidance to guests on hotel activities, dining options and general hotel and Cape Town information
• Determine when a customer has had too much alcohol and if required to refuse further service in a polite way
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of food and beverage products
• Maintain a clean working area by sweeping, vacuuming and dusting
• Maintain liquor inventory and consumption records
• Collect payment for drinks served and balance all receipts
• Prepare inventory or purchase requisitions as needed to replenish supplies

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS

• Minimum 2 years’ experience required as Bartender in an upmarket bar or luxury hotel environment
• Experience in handling Point of Sale (POS) terminals and Stock & Inventory management software
• Have excellent English communication skills (written and verbal). Other languages are advantageous
• Top knowledge of The V&A Waterfront, Cape Town and the surrounding areas
• Have willingness and a passion to serve
• Ability to stay calm under pressure
• Ability to work long hours, day and night, including weekends and holidays
• Proven job reliability, diligence, dedication and attention to detail
• A passion to learn, teach and drive improvement in fellow employees
• International experience in a similar environment and travelling experience will be an advantage

It is important that the candidate is able to work as part of a team and is a good cultural fit for The Royal Portfolio. South African citizenship is advantageous.
