A dynamic tech firm is seeking a Data Engineer to own the data layer and build web applications using sports and gambling data. You'll develop and maintain data pipelines, design internal APIs, and ensure data accuracy. Solid Python skills and experience with AWS data services are essential. The ideal candidate cares about data quality and thrives in building innovative solutions in a small team environment.
Data Engineer | Sports and Gambling DataVariance Incorporated (The Transfer Flow and Variance Betting) are hiring.
We're building web applications that turn sports and gambling data into predictive insights. Our stack runs on AWS with Node.js, React, and Python across four layers: DevOps, Data, Models, and Apps. We're looking for someone to own the Data layer.
This role is foundational. Every application we build sits on top of our data infrastructure, so accuracy and freshness aren't nice-to-haves—they're the whole point.
You'll build and maintain the pipelines that fetch data from a variety of sources—APIs, feeds, and the wider web—then clean, aggregate, normalise, enrich, and store it. You'll design internal APIs that make downstream development seamless. You'll set up monitoring and alerting so problems surface before they cascade.
Note: our data issues are generally ones of quality, not scale. We won’t be asking you to process data for millions of customers. Instead we’ll be asking you to deal with messy and incomplete data sources, knitting them together into a clear picture for our downstream systems, and alerting in a reliable fashion if and when consistency problems occur.
Above all, you genuinely care about sports and gambling data. You want to work somewhere your contributions matter, with a small team that's building something real.
