What this data shows

What we track

Job Market Statistics by City summarizes the online job market across selected cities: the capital or biggest city of every US state, and the leading city of each country where JobLeads operates. The roster grows with every release – we currently track 98 cities, and the full list ships with the data download. City pages go live in waves as localized versions are ready; every tracked city is already included in the download. The tracker is built from job postings gathered across the web; duplicates are removed before anything is counted. The headline figure is the number of new postings that first appeared in a city each quarter, tracked from the start of 2025.

Reading the numbers

Our coverage of the online job market grows as we add sources, so we report quarter-over-quarter changes rather than year-over-year, alongside jobs per company – new postings divided by distinct hiring companies – as a simple check on what’s driving growth. “Time a job stays active” is the median number of days a posting stays online before it is removed; it reflects how long employers keep ads up, not how long the hiring process takes. The city-vs-state-vs-US comparison rebases every line to 100, so it tracks relative growth rather than raw volume; this view is experimental.

Salaries and confidence

Salary bands are based on JobLeads’ estimated salary per posting, independent of whether the ad states pay, and based on historical and current data available. For US cities, bands use fixed dollar thresholds; elsewhere, bands are calculated separately for each city and shown in the city’s local currency, so they reflect local salary levels. Read them as indicative. Salary bands are shown only where the underlying estimates pass our quality check, so an individual quarter can be missing. Any figure based on very few postings is flagged as low-confidence. Data updates quarterly. Free to use with attribution: credit JobLeads and link to this page.

Frequently asked questions

Job Market Statistics by City, answered

What is Job Market Statistics by City?

A quarterly data hub tracking the online job market city by city: new job postings, industries, seniority levels, salary bands, and work settings, built on postings indexed by JobLeads. Every tracked city has its own page with the full breakdown.

Where does the data come from?

From job postings indexed by JobLeads across 400,000+ company career pages and job sources. We count each posting once, in the quarter it first appeared in our index.

How often is the data updated?

Quarterly. Each update adds the most recent completed quarter; previous quarters are never changed.

Can I use these numbers in an article?

Yes – the data is free to use for journalism and research with attribution. Credit JobLeads and link to this page. For custom data cuts, contact us via the methodology section above.

How do you classify remote, hybrid, and on-site?

Each posting carries the work setting stated in the listing: on-site, hybrid, or remote. Postings without a stated work setting are counted as on-site or hybrid.

How are the salaries calculated?

Salary bands are based on JobLeads’ estimated salary per posting, independent of whether the ad states pay, and based on historical and current data available. For US cities, bands use fixed dollar thresholds; elsewhere, bands are calculated separately for each city and shown in the city’s local currency, so they reflect local salary levels. Read them as indicative.

Why is my city not included?

We cover the capital or biggest city of every US state, plus the leading city of each country where JobLeads operates – and the roster keeps growing with every update. The full, current city list is in the methodology and the data download. Writing about a city we don’t cover yet? Contact us – we may be able to pull the data for you.

Why don’t these numbers match official statistics like the BLS?

Official sources like the Bureau of Labor Statistics measure the whole labor market through surveys. We measure the online job market through indexed postings. The absolute numbers differ by design – what our data adds is posting-level detail: industries, seniority, salary bands, and work settings, updated quarterly at city level.

Why do you show quarter-over-quarter instead of year-over-year changes?

Our index grows as we add new sources, and year-over-year comparisons would mix that growth with real market change. Quarter-over-quarter changes and the jobs-per-company metric give a cleaner signal.
