Job summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois in Springfield, IL is seeking an Activity Specialist-Harvard Park to directly serve as a positive role model and activity leader for youth ages 6 to 18. Under supervision, you will plan and run engaging activities, mentor Members, enforce club rules, and promote safety while fostering development through the youth development framework.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of youth development; ability to motivate and provide guidance to youth through establishing positive relationships with youth Members; demonstrated caring and respect exhibited toward Members.
• Ability to relate to the general public, parents and BGCCIL Members in a friendly, positive, and professional manner. Demonstrated ability to convey BGCCIL policies and procedures to Members, and to implement appropriate guidance and discipline policies.
• Ability to organize and supervise Members to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm, energy and commitment in personal contact with Members, parents, supervisors and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Youth for Success by building positive relationships, delivering engaging activities, mentoring Members, and promoting a respectful, rule-guided environment.
• Implement and assist with planning, evaluating programming and curriculum to maximize Member engagement and learning.
• Maintain Order & Safety by enforcing rules fairly and maintaining a clean, safe environment for Members.
• Daily Duties include opening/closing routines, recruiting and engaging youth, leading high-energy activities, addressing discipline fairly, tracking attendance, and delivering professional service to Members and families.
• Internal and external relationships involve coordinating with BGCCIL staff, volunteers, parents and community partners to support mission and outreach.
