Job summary

CVS Health in Salt Lake City seeks a Software Engineer to develop and operate Workforce Insights software. You will work on Python services, SQL transformations, and BI integrations, partnering with data and HR specialists to translate requirements into maintainable code and tests.

You will build data pipelines with Airflow/Cloud Composer, maintain BigQuery transformations, and ensure security and quality in releases, while collaborating across teams to improve the analytics stack.

Qualifications

3+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent experience building and supporting production software.
3+ years of experience with Python or a comparable general-purpose language, including writing readable, maintainable code and automated tests.
3+ years of experience building or integrating APIs, services, data workflows, or other production systems; ability to reason about interfaces and failure modes.
3+ years of experience working across application code, data transformations, and operational tooling as product needs require.
2+ years of experience demonstrating advanced SQL expertise, preferably in BigQuery, including scripting, partitioning, clustering, materialized views, query optimization, and cost awareness.
2+ years of experience with Kimball dimensional modeling, including grain, conformed dimensions, slowly changing dimensions, bridge tables, factless facts, and fact additivity.
2+ years of production experience with Airflow or Cloud Composer and Python for ETL, automation, data quality, and troubleshooting.
2+ years of hands‑on experience with cloud data platforms; GCP is strongly preferred, with working knowledge of BigQuery, Cloud Storage, IAM, service accounts, Secret Manager, and related security concepts.
1+ year of experience with an enterprise semantic or BI layer such as Superset, ThoughtSpot, Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar, including governed metrics and row‑level security.
1+ year of experience with Git, code review, and CI/CD practices, preferably GitHub Actions across multiple environments.
1+ year of experience tracing data or metric discrepancies to root cause and explain findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Responsibilities

Develop Workfoce Insight Software across Python, SQL, and workflow code, following team architecture and coding standards.
Translate product and operational requirements into technical tasks; collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and HR partners on expected behavior and acceptance criteria.
Participate in code reviews, improve existing code where appropriate, and write automated tests for business logic, data contracts, and integrations.
Build and maintain BigQuery transformations and models as part of the product, following established conventions for grain, keys, history, and query efficiency.
Integrate Data and Metrics by implementing approved workforce metric definitions in SQL and BI integrations, keeping logic understandable and testable.
Preserve metric behavior when changing data models or interfaces; reconcile outputs to reference numbers and investigate discrepancies with metric owners.
Document changes that affect reported numbers and obtain definition-owner approval before release.
Contribute to Superset datasets and dashboard integrations, and support evaluation of APIs, caching, SSO, or scheduled-report behavior.
