Job summary

State of Nebraska is seeking Winter Maintenance Workers for the Ainsworth area and surrounding locations. This temporary winter role involves assisting in snow removal, heavy equipment operation, and general highway maintenance to ensure traveler safety.

Positions are seasonal through March 31, 2027, with shift hours depending on weather. CDL preferred; CDL holders start at a higher pay rate. Work locations include several NE towns listed in the posting.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Highway Maintenance Worker must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior requires 18+ and a Class A or B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days of employment.
• Preferred Qualifications: a valid Class A or B CDL; experience operating heavy equipment.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ability to lift 35 lbs frequently, up to 60 lbs occasionally, and 90+ lbs infrequently; work in outdoor temps and near high-speed traffic; available for emergencies outside scheduled hours.

Responsibilities

• Help with Winter Operations.
• Perform snow removal.
• Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming.
• Respond to highway emergencies.
• Safely move, drag, lift, load, and unload equipment, materials, supplies, and hazardous materials from roadways within weight limits.
• Spread and tamp surfacing materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
