Job summary

The Nebraska Department of Transportation is hiring winter temporary highway maintenance workers to support snow removal and road operations in Ainsworth and surrounding areas. This temporary position offers flexible hours based on winter weather conditions and aims to ensure safe travel for the public.

Starting pay is $20.39 per hour; those with a current CDL start at $21.953 per hour. CDL and heavy equipment experience are preferred for advancement and higher start rates.

Qualifications

• Highway Maintenance Worker: must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
• Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior: must be at least 18 and possess a valid driver's license, plus Class A or B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days of employment.
• Preferred qualifications: valid CDL and experience operating heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Help with Winter Operations.
• Perform snow removal.
• Perform heavy equipment operation for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming.
• Respond to highway emergencies.
• Safely move, drag, lift, load, and unload various equipment, materials, supplies, and hazardous materials or objects from the roadway within weight restrictions.
• Spread and tamp surfacing materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
