Job summary

The State of Nebraska is seeking Winter Temporary Highway Maintenance Workers to support Lincoln and surrounding areas. These seasonal roles focus on snow removal, highway safety, and operating heavy equipment, with potential for longer-term opportunities.

Responsibilities include assisting in winter operations, snow removal, tree trimming, and responding to highway emergencies. CDL is preferred; some positions require a Class A/B licence and availability to travel.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
• CDL Class A or B with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days for Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior.
• Preferred: Class A or B CDL and experience operating heavy equipment.
• Out-of-town travel may be required; regular and reliable attendance is expected.
• Must be able to report to work outside scheduled hours within 40 minutes.

Responsibilities

• Help with Winter Operations.
• Perform snow removal.
• Perform heavy equipment operation for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming.
• Respond to highway emergencies.
• Move, drag, lift, load, and unload equipment, materials, and hazardous objects within weight restrictions.
• Spread and tamp surfacing materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
