Job summary

The State of Nebraska is hiring winter temporary maintenance workers across multiple locations in the Hartington area and surrounding towns. The role covers snow removal, heavy equipment operation, and routine highway safety tasks. CDL holders start at higher rates and may advance with training.

Positions are temporary through March 31, 2027, with hours depending on weather. Regular attendance and ability to report outside scheduled hours are required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior: must be at least 20 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and have a Class A or B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days of employment.
• Preferred: A valid Class A or B CDL and experience operating heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform snow removal.
• Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming.
• Respond to highway emergencies.
• Move, load, and unload equipment, materials, and hazardous materials within weight limits.
• Spread and tamp surfacing materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
