Job summary

MyMichigan Health seeks a unit secretary to provide exceptional patient-focused service on the unit. You will welcome patients and families, answer phones, and coordinate with nursing and other departments to support care and discharge processes.

Responsibilities include data entry, updating patient status, and assisting with transfer paperwork, while maintaining a clean, organized work area. This role may require floating to other departments as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Casual employees fingerprinting required.
• Basic reading, writing and math skills.
• Microsoft Windows competency expected.
• BLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients and families on the unit; answer phones and transfer calls.
• Schedule tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments as needed for discharged patients.
• Communicate patient care needs to relevant staff and ensure comfort items (water/blankets) are provided.
• Enter and verify information in computer systems; check census, bed status, and patient transfers.
• Maintain orderly work area, process referrals/transfers, and support unit staff as assigned.
