Job summary

IGH L Inc in New York state seeks a Direct Support Professional to be a role model for developmentally disabled consumers, providing hands-on assistance with ADLs and teaching daily living skills based on mutual respect and teamwork.

The DSP will administer medications, supervise self-care activities, and document logs. Certification in AMAP, SCIP, and CPR is required, along with a NYS driver’s license and ability to lift 50 lbs. Flexibility for holidays is needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid NYS Driver’s license.
• SCIP and Adult CPR certification required.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs at least five times per hour.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, including holidays.
• Enthusiastic team player and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Administers medication, as per OPWDD AMAP certification.
• Encourages choice making and uses redirection techniques per SCIP.
• Teaches and supervises self-care activities; provides physical assistance as needed.
• Implements program goal plans and maintains related records.
• Performs and documents housekeeping tasks and supervises daily living activities.
• Supervises and participates in recreation, both at IGHL and in the community.
• Provides transportation and maintains DRIVER AUTHORIZATION for community activities.
• Takes part in nutrition education and meal planning; ensures safe food handling.
• Maintains documentation in logs: nursing, medication, behavior, and first aid.
• Completes forms per IGHL policy and attends meetings/training.
• Maintains/emergency policies and administers first aid as required.
• Attends staff meetings and in-services; supports supply needs.
• Completes required certifications (SCIP, Adult CPR, AMAP, defensive driving).
• Performs other duties as assigned.
