Job summary

MorphLabs is seeking a Design Intern in New York City to advance the physical design of a non-invasive headset for prosthetic control. You will own a well-scoped project from first sketch to tested part, primarily focusing on industrial design for fit, materials, and mechanisms, with collaboration from hardware engineers.

You will also contribute to product and interface design for software setup, calibration, and control screens, gaining hands-on experience from the founding team and delivering

Qualifications

• Portfolio of physical products you designed and built yourself.
• Sketch to CAD to physical prototype, many times over.
• Design work that had to fit the human body (wearables, medical devices, protective or sports gear).
• Mechanical sense: tolerances, materials, mechanisms and assembly.

Responsibilities

• Form and identity: proportions, materials, color and finish of the headset.
• Fit and comfort across a wide range of head shapes and sizes.
• Electrode retention mechanisms, measured against signal quality.
• Miniaturization and enclosures with the electrical engineers.
• Prosthetic integration: mounts, housings and interfaces to prosthetic and robotic hands.
• Prototyping and testing: sketch to CAD to physical parts, tested on real people.
• Design for manufacture and documentation.
• Product and interface design for setup, calibration and control screens.
