Job summary

MorphLabs in New York City is seeking a Design Intern to own the physical design of a wearable headset for non-invasive brain-computer interfaces. You’ll collaborate with the founding team and hardware engineers to move a project from sketch to tested parts, delivering designs that work in real-world use.

The role focuses on fit, materials, mechanisms, and aesthetics for comfortable, public-ready devices, with hands-on prototyping and manufacturing considerations. 5-month, on-site internship.

Qualifications

• Portfolio of physical products you designed and built yourself, with a clear account of what was yours.
• Form you can defend: the proportions, materials and finishes you chose, and why.
• Sketch to CAD to physical prototype, many times over, with each round changing because of what you learned.
• Design work that had to fit the human body for hours: wearables, medical devices, protective or sports gear.

Responsibilities

• Design headset fit, materials and finish to read as a consumer product, not a lab instrument.
• Design for comfort for a full day and quick on/off usability.
• Design mechanisms to keep electrodes in stable contact with the scalp and collaborate with hardware engineers on signal quality.
• Prototype and test quickly from sketch to CAD to real parts with users and iterate.
• Prepare designs for production and document detailing to enable repeatability.
