Job summary

MorphLabs in New York City is seeking a Design Intern to focus on the physical design of a headset for prosthetic control. You’ll move a project from initial sketches to tested parts, collaborating with hardware engineers and the founding team in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

The role centers on industrial design—fit, materials, mechanisms, and the headset’s look and feel—with additional work in product and interface design for calibration and setup software.

Qualifications

• Portfolio of physical products you designed and built yourself.
• Sketch to CAD to physical prototype, many times over.
• Design work that had to fit the human body (wearables, medical devices, protective or sports gear).
• Mechanical sense: tolerances, materials, mechanisms and assembly.
• Testing with real people, and fast iteration.

Responsibilities

• Form and identity: proportions, materials, color and finish of the headset.
• Fit and comfort across a wide range of head shapes and sizes.
• Electrode retention mechanisms, measured against signal quality.
• Miniaturization and enclosures with the electrical engineers.
• Prosthetic integration: mounts, housings and interfaces to prosthetic and robotic hands.
• Prototyping and testing: sketch to CAD to physical parts, tested on real people.
• Design for manufacture and documentation.
• Product and interface design for setup, calibration and control screens.
